Ambler road permits reinstated, reports Trilogy Metals

Project developer Trilogy Metals on Friday reported that key federal right-of-way permits for the Ambler access project, in Alaska, have been executed, re-establishing the federal authorisations required to advance the industrial access road to the Ambler mining district.

The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) signed the permits with the US Army Corps of Engineers, the National Park Service, and the Bureau of Land Management.

The move follows the October 6 Presidential decision under Section 1106 of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act, directing agencies to reissue the authorisations originally granted in 2020.

The reinstated permits restore the 50-year right-of-way across federally managed lands, paving the way for AIDEA to resume road planning activities, including updates to engineering plans, budgets, and programmes for the coming year.

Trilogy president and CEO Tony Giardini said the milestone was “pivotal” for Alaska and the broader US supply chain. “The execution of these federal permits marks a pivotal milestone for the Ambler road and the State of Alaska. We commend the leadership of AIDEA and the federal government in moving this strategic project forward,” he said.

“The road will provide access to a mining district that has the potential to strengthen the United States’ ability to secure domestic supplies of copper and other critical minerals essential to national defence, energy infrastructure, advanced manufacturing and the rapid growth of AI data centers.”

The Ambler Mining District hosts some of the world’s richest known copper-dominant polymetallic deposits. Trilogy holds a 50% interest in Ambler Metals, a joint venture with South32, which owns the Upper Kobuk mineral projects — including the Arctic and Bornite deposits.
